Rule4080 Presents Best Events of 2010 (Opinion) had the pleasure of covering loads of events this year and we’d like to take this time to reflect on some of the exceptional events of the year. Here is my commentary. Enjoy.

* The New Yorker Hotel 80th

I believe this was one of the first events we covered in 2010. To celebrate the anniversary of such a long-standing New York City landmark was a gift in itself however, the full buffet spread, open bar, photo booth, vintage cars, and live band performance took this event over the top. We also had the pleasure of meeting 2 phenomenal people who are now good friends. Shout out Neta and Sass.

* Team Epiphany

Throughout the year, Team Epiphany kept us aware of which brands were hot. For example, the Team Epiphany X Heineken event in the summer introduced us to Heineken Dark while treating us to performances by J. Cole, Wale, and surprise guest Rick Ross! Team Epiphany kept the flame lit with other events for EA Sports, Tanqueray, Heineken, and their Summer Series at Soho House. Shouts to Coltrane.

* Belvedere Vodka

Already one of my favorite vodka brands, Belvedere outdid themselves this year by hosting major events for their Belvedere Pink Grapefruit and Belvedere Intense Unfiltered varieties. The Belvedere Pink Grapefruit event in the Meatpacking District was hosted by socialite Bevy Smith and deejayed by The Roots’ own Questlove. I also had the pleasure of meeting the lovely songstress Keri Hilson. Shouts to Last Exit.

* Hennessy Artistry

America’s premier cognac brand hosts its annual Artistry event and every year seems to outdo the year prior. This year, we were treated with performances by The Roots, Q-Tip, Eve, Ron Isley, Mary J. Blige, Bobby Brown, Erykah Badu and more. Shouts to Azza.

* Adult | | |

Yup, you guessed it. Aside from liquor events, hip-hop events, fashion events, and art events… the adult series events are the greatest! Shouts out to Sapphire, Scores, Hustler, and Rick’s Cabaret for hosting amazing events this year. Personal shouts to Michael W. and Jennifer G.

* Naked Painting

We were introduced to the beautiful Sally Golan of Social Exposure Media early in the year when we attended our first Naked Painting Party. If you have not attended this artsy New York event, you really don’t know what you’re missing out on. For art lovers, you can be a painter, a canvas…or both. In addition to the popular Naked Painting Parties, Sally has also been busy working on other types of events. We recently attended her Spa and Tea Event and look forward to what she’ll have in store for 2011.

* Monday Night Lights at 40/

We everywhere, you never there! Those words make it difficult for us to catch up on simple things like…Monday Night Football. Thanks to Jas Fly, Melyssa Ford, and Jamal Jimoh, we have been able to be “industry social” while watching the game. I have to also mention that these MNL events also spoiled us with dirt-cheap wing specials and sponsored open bars. Salute!!! Shouts to Rome.

* Grey Goose Rising

What’s fast becoming a great series, this year’s Rising Icons event featured Solange Knowles and Roc Nation artist J. Cole. Held at Capitale on September 11th, this event was memorable mainly because everyone that I was hanging out with had a blast. The Grey Goose was flowing, DJ Solange Knowles (surprisingly) provided the perfect background music, and J. Cole put on possibly his best NYC performance. Shouts to Sir Charles Anthony.

* Def Jam Rapstar Official Launch

The Def Jam Rapstar Official Launch party was held at the Hudson Hotel and featured electrifying DJ sets by DJ Khaled and DJ Funkmaster Flex. Lloyd Banks, Maino, and Shyheim were among the attendees at this spectacular event.

* Dream Listening Party X Moet Rose’ at

The Dream held an incredible listening event at the luxurious Ink 48 Hotel on the rooftop. Moet & Chandon sponsored the event and drowned attendees in the finest Rose’ bubbly. Despite early confusion at the door (ahem), the event turned out to be a complete win. The Dream’s album Love King sounded amazing, the Rose’ poured freely, the view from the roof of Ink 48 was breathtaking (pause), and there were plenty of beautiful faces in attendance. Shouts to Rome.

* Vibe Magazine X Sachika Twins

We first ran into the Sachika Twins at DD172 for one of the many great exhibit openings. Since that time, I have seen the twins on a rerun of MTV’s Silent Library (of all places) and also at other events such as their fashion week event at Carnivale and the Jamie Foxx Listening Party at Samsung Center. Well, the twins (To-Tam and To-Nya) celebrated their birthday at Juliet on the first snowy day in NYC. It was cold. We waited outside. The doors opened late. The doorman was cool (rarity). Once inside the venue, we awaited the arrival of the twins by drinking complimentary Tyku cocktails. Coco (Ice T’s wife) previously worked the runway for the Sachika brand during fashion week so, it came as no surprise that she was in attendance. What did come as a surprise though was that the birthday cake was in the shape of her most famous ASSet. Shouts to Coco, Ice T, Sachika Twins, and Soulgee.

* Swatch New Gents Launch at Gansevoort

The Gansevoort Hotel Park Avenue was a beautiful and perfect venue for the Swatch Launch Party. Upon entering, we were greeted by a tray of the signature cocktail of the evening: Ciroc Coconut with Pineapple Juice (that’s right…CocoLoso!). As the event went on, I bumped into Billy The Artist whom I’d met at a 2009 event where he premiered his own watch – a collaboration with Swatch. Other celebs in attendance included Fabolous, Chris Brown, and Nikki Reed of Twilight. The best gift is that Swatch provides watches to their guests via gift bags. Thanks Swatch!

* G-Shock x Dee & Ricky Collaboration Timepiece At The Bowery

Dee and Ricky introduced their timepiece collaboration with G-Shock by Casio. The event was held at the elegant Bowery Hotel. The bar was sponsored by Patron Tequila and Moet Rose‘. The event also brought out hip-hop stars such as Serius Jones, Rhymefest, and Bun B.

* Thrillist

If you are not familiar with Thrillist, you are trully missing out on great deals and events in your city. In addition to just being a great site for information overall, they host some incredible events of their own. Among the standouts, Thrillist hosted a St. Patrick’s Day event featuring Bushmills and Guinness, a Margarita Summer event featuring Cazadores Tequila, and a 5th Anniversary Party featuring Smirnoff Malt Beverages and Ciroc Vodka.

* Bacardi Holiday at Trump Wollman

Open bar from 6pm until 12am, free ice skating, free food, great music, goodie bags and a great diverse crowd. This party had it all! Of all the ‘holiday’ parties at the end of the year, this was the ONE to be at!!!

* Smirnoff Master Of The Mix

BET/Centric brought us the first ever DJ Reality TV show and I was fortunate enough to attend the NYC premiere screening at the IAC Building. The event was sponsored by Smirnoff and had some great cocktail mixes. All of the DJ contestants were present at the event along with host Just Blaze and judge DJ Kid Capri. A special unexpected treat was DJ GrandMaster Flash’s explanation of how he invented scratching. Priceless!

Bring on 2011!!!!

Even tho MY event is in the running, I gotta be honest and say HANDS DOWN the Hennessey Artistry event was THEE event of 2010. Ron Isley, Mary J Blige, Bobby Brown, Erykha Badu, Eve, Q-Tip and Mike Posner all backed by The Roots? Priceless.
