Vampire Life 2: F.E.A.S.T. The Movie Screening (Recap)

F.E.A.S.T. is an acronym that stands for Family Eating And Staying True. Though it sounds like a pretty straightforward concept, examples of this mantra are difficult to identify – in the real world, in the streets, and in the realm of hip-hop alike. The recurring elements that often plague this ideal from coming into fruition are jealousy and envy. This is the basis behind the movie that the Dipset Capo Jim Jones premiered at Anthology Film Archives in the East Village on Monday, May 21st.

Vampire Life 2: F.E.A.S.T. The Movie opens at Harlem’s own Ricardo Steakhouse where Jim Jones and a slew of new wave affiliates are dining and toasting to the good life at a table setting which invokes hints of DaVinci’s Last Supper. One by one, Jones narrates a brief synopsis of each of his crew members before they spit their own introductory bars. While serving as powerful introduction to the movie, the number of new names and faces to remember rivals the first time you were introduced to Wu-Tang Clan.

Standouts among the new roster are: Sen City, Shoota, and Trav who are all prominently featured on the mixtape and in the movie.

Director Clifton Bell does an excellent job of providing quality visuals that compliment the music and accurately depict the lyrics. On my first watch however, I got easily confused by the characters – it was difficult to keep track of which members were originally part of Jim’s crew and which members were out to snake him.

Longtime Dipset fans will note the absence of Cam’ron, Juelz Santana, and Freekey Zekey. Also absent are members of Byrd Gang, Skull Gang, Purple Gang, 730 Dips or other satellite members of the Dipset Movement. Although, they are noticeably absent from the movie, many of them were in attendance at the screening. It is clear that there is no love lost and Jones has just gone back to his roots to create a new wave, a new movement – #VampireLife.
