J. Cole “Crooked Smile” (Music Video)

Instead of releasing a video encouraging everyone to love themselves for who they are, or just showcasing TLC, J. Cole offers honest commentary on the drug war. The line between the good guys and bad guys is blurred worse than ever. Regardless of why, there are men of color dealing drugs that destroy their communities. However, it’s well-documented that law enforcement’s policing tactics are racially-motivated and egregiously ineffective. What is certain that thousands of innocent men, women, children and whole neighborhoods are the victims of this unending “war.”

“Crooked Smile” is dedicated to Aiyana Stanley-Jones, the 7-year-old girl who was shot and killed during a police raid on her house in Detroit back in 2010. This past July, the judge declared a mistrial after jurors failed to reach a verdict in the trial of Stanley’s shooter, Officer Joseph Weekley.

J. Cole’s “What Dreams May Come” tour featuring Wale launched last week. Born Sinner is in stores now.
